THE ORGANISATION :
The Gulf of Guinea Citizens’ Network (GGCN) is an advocacy initiative created by a concert of community, citizens and civil society actors for effective enforcement of standards of legal, political, and social responsibility in natural resources exploitation, management, and accounting in the countries of the Gulf of Guinea.

The Gulf of Guinea Citizens Network (GGCN) is seeking a Communications and Online Advocacy Officer to coordinate the promotion of its activities and message to the public, and raise awareness about human rights, natural resources management, governance and transparency in the Gulf of Guinea

Task and duties
In collaboration with the GGCN Secretariat, develop and/or contribute to the development of communication and advocacy objectives, plans and strategies. Specifically :
- Identify beneficiaries, users, communications products, and best forms of communications
- Develop and maintain a calendar for new website content
- Provide, write and edit content for new website
- Plan and edit updates
- Creation of an automated “newsfeed”
- Manage the production of online resources, verify content and work in collaboration with translators and editors as required
- Monitor and report on analytical web
- Develop and strengthen links with online human rights, governance and transparency communities in the Gulf of Guinea and beyond. This may include :
o Develop strategies for websites and social media in English and French, notably Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr and others
o Develop articles related to GGCN objectives and activities on Wikipedia and other media
o Develop mailing lists and for a as necessary
- Arrange publicity for projects and programmes through different outlets
- Compose, edit, design, record and produce publications, including newsletters, leaflets, and brochures
- Write news releases, speeches and articles
- Keep staff, beneficiaries, users, partners and the general public up to date with programme news
- Assist with communication and online advocacy in other projects with respect to multimedia, campaigns, training, etc…
- Carry out other tasks as required.

Essential

- Excellent communications skills (written and oral in English and French)
- Computer, desktop publishing skills
- Creativity, innovation, and ability to communicate in different and innovative ways
- Attention to details, result-oriented, strong analytical skills and team player
- Excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing personality and comfortable meeting new people
- Ability to form and maintain relationships through teamwork and networking
- Time-management and organizational skills
- Flexibility, ability to work well under pressure and to juggle several tasks at once

Desirable
- Fluency or good understanding of Spanish or Portuguese
- Web design competences or experience
- Software development skills or experience
- Demonstrated experience of developing, monitoring and evaluating advocacy, new media and lobbying
- Demonstrable awareness of own strengths and weaknesses, and evidence of self-managed learning
- Experience of training others

Education and Experience
- A university degree
- 1-2 years’ experience in communications, preferably in the area of human rights, international law and governance
- Knowledge and understanding of the socio-political and economic landscape in Africa, particularly the Gulf of Guinea
- Know how to use different media for different purposes, notably online advocacy
- Demonstrated experience in developing communications plans, including using social media and new information technologies
- English and French languages required. Spanish or Portuguese an asset.
- Good contacts with media and/or political organs, institutions and movement across the Continent and beyond, would be a considerable asset.

Location
The Officer will be located at the GGCN Secretariat in Yaoundé, Cameroon and may be required to travel from time to time to other Gulf of Guinea countries or outside the region.
